Mental Health Counseling in Bozeman, Montana with Joe Johnson SWLC

I am a Clinical Social Worker Licensed Candidate (SWLC) with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Montana. Born and raised in Bozeman, I am proud to call Montana my lifelong home. I am also an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.

My journey into the field of mental health and social work began through my own lived experiences and the transformative process of engaging in therapy. These personal milestones opened my eyes to the power of human connection, advocacy, and the vital role that culturally responsive, trauma-informed care plays in healing. During my graduate studies, I received focused training in crisis intervention, substance use treatment, and inclusive practices designed to support clients across diverse backgrounds.

I approach therapy with a collaborative, client-centered, and strengths-based lens. Each session is tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. Empathy and authenticity are at the core of meaningful therapeutic relationships, and I strive to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported. Whether you’re exploring your identity, managing anxiety and trauma, or navigating complex life transitions, I am here to walk alongside you with compassion and care. I am committed to fostering an environment that is affirming, inclusive, and nonjudgmental. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients build coping strategies and shift focus to their inner strengths and resilience.

Outside of my professional role, I find balance and joy through fly fishing, music, cooking, and staying active. I am deeply committed to holistic well-being, not only as a counselor but as a community member, advocating for the dismantling of stigma and the promotion of healing on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
